Yes. If you want to be able to pull off “purple and orange” - you’ll have to do eggplant and coral, lavender and coral, or lavender and burnt orange (dark, almost brown color).

Any of the in between colors tend to look primary color-ish, or costumey. So unless you’re looking for something reminiscent of Mardi Gras…stick to lights and darks!
